Leah Jordan - Live Set
To round out the artists we invited in over the covid pandemic we have Leah Jordan. She performed a great set, highlighting her excellent songwriting abilities.
With singer-songwriters, the biggest thing I try to achieve is getting out of the way and letting the song speak for itself. This is my default goal, unless the artist wants to take their songs and fill them out for a bigger sound. I mentioned in the Shores blog that I love doing this and I can’t stress how much I truly do but it’s always important to remember that as an engineer, it’s the artist’s intention that is the single most important thing. With Leah and singer-songwriters like her, it’s of upmost importance to try and capture the music as honestly as possible. No frills, no engineering tricks. Just the artist and their music. That starkness can be just as powerful, if not more so, than something that is massively over produced where you pull out every trick in the book.
I think we achieved that here with Leah’s set. She plays gigs just like this one all the time over Northern Ireland and that’s all we wanted to capture with this recording.
